Booleans in iOS Shortcuts

I really wish iOS shortcuts included Booleans. Or, for that matter, at least the ability to set a variable using freeform text, rather than having to set up a whole new text field and then setting the variable to its contents.

This seems…complex?

It’s just weird. Variables are one of the fundamental components in any workflow, but even as the rest of Shortcuts continues to get more and more powerful, they’ve remained pretty primitive compared to how configurable other actions are.

A screenshot of trying to set a variable in an iOS shortcut. There are various preset options—the shortcut's input, the date, clipboard, contents, and device details—but no options for setting a simple, true or false value.

In the screenshot above, I’d like to see options for “Boolean” and “text”; select one, and you could further configure it via the drop-down UI where Shortcuts puts additional settings for an action.
